ETH Denver gathered over 25,000 attendees last week, reaffirming Ethereum’s strong community presence despite ongoing discussions about leadership challenges within the Ethereum Foundation. Additional reports indicate that 5,000-10,000 more participants attended side events, highlighting the event’s significance.

Originally launched as a hackathon in 2017 by John Paller, ETH Denver has become a key indicator of sentiment within the Ethereum ecosystem. This year, discussions surrounding Ethereum Foundation President Aya Miyaguchi and her leadership were evident. Critics argue that the foundation’s slow technical progress and ETH’s price struggles have raised concerns about its future direction.

While some attendees expressed awareness of the leadership debate, most seemed more focused on Ethereum’s broader developments. Calls for decentralization in leadership were echoed, with suggestions that power should not be concentrated in a single individual. One of the most notable innovations was RandAO, a protocol offering decentralized random number generation (RNG) to enhance security and prevent manipulation. Secure RNG has been a critical topic in blockchain, particularly after vulnerabilities were exposed in Bitcoin’s Libbitcoin client, which allowed attackers to brute-force weak private keys.

Another standout project was MatterFi, a security firm developing advanced wallet solutions. Its “Send to Name” feature allows users to send crypto transactions using human-readable names instead of complex addresses, improving usability and reducing errors across multiple blockchain networks.

Beyond technical advancements, ETH Denver featured various unique attractions, including a Dogecoin-themed Cybertruck and McLaren, a robotic canine from Coinbase, and Eva Blaisdell’s “Lady Rocket” initiative, which aims to place the first Bitcoin wallet on the moon.
