On July 7, 2014, XRP (XRPUSD) was worth $0.0028.

XRPUSD reached the all-time high (ATH) of $3.84 on January 4, 2018. That means you would have made a profit of more than $137,000 if you invested just $100 in XRP in July 2014.

Wow! That kind of return was massive. Wasn’t it?

However, the chances of making such returns on XRP are now very slim, especially since 2018.

The massive bull market in cryptos, which was witnessed in 2020/2021 failed to take XRP back to the ATH of $3.84.

Evaporating Returns
The gains made in 2017/2018 were forfeited in the 2018. Likewise, the gains made in 2020/2021 have been forfeited again.

You can look at the chart below. Since 2018, XRP hasn’t made any money for investors.

That is the reason why I don’t like XRP. It does not make money for investors. It can go higher and higher in protracted bull market, but it will lose any gains made.

Apart from the SEC legal battles against Ripple, the company behind XRP, the altcoin itself doesn’t have any special use case, apart from being a payment system.

There are far better tokens and altcoins with numerous use cases, each. And these coins have huger potential that many times, make them far better than XRP, as far as investing is concerned.
XRP Is Excellent for Swing Trading, However
When it comes to swing trading, XRP is one of the best instruments out there.

The coin is good to be shorted when it is overbought, and can be purchased when it is oversold, with stunning results. When the price is extremely bullish, look for shorting opportunities and when it is extremely bearish, look for opportunities to go long, especially when price shows signs of bearish or bullish exhaustion.

Technical indicators like the Commodity Channel Index (CCI), the Relative Strength Index (RSI), Bollinger Bands, and Stochastic oscillator can also help in pinpointing overextended areas of XRP prices.

And such strategy must have entry and exit plans, plus risk management considerations.

So, note that XRP is not great for investment as you may end up gaining nothing, as the past few years have shown, but it is great for trading. There are other coins with better potential than XRP.
Nonetheless, if you want to invest in XRP, that is your personal opinion.
