  • Cash App expands crypto access through MoonPay.
  • XRP, SOL, ETH and USDT join its crypto offering.
  • The move could bring more mainstream users into crypto.

For years, buying crypto through a mainstream payment app often meant choosing from a very limited list of assets.

That is beginning to change.

Cash App has expanded its crypto reach through an integration with MoonPay, allowing eligible U.S. users to buy XRP, Solana’s SOL, Ethereum’s ETH and Tether’s USDT directly through Cash App Pay.

The move could put four major crypto assets in front of Cash App’s roughly 59 million active users, potentially giving them a much larger distribution channel beyond traditional crypto exchanges.

What Happened?

MoonPay has added Cash App Pay as a payment option for its fiat-to-crypto on-ramp.

The integration went live on August 18, allowing eligible U.S. Cash App users to purchase XRP, SOL, ETH and USDT through MoonPay and send the assets to external wallets.

Users can move their crypto to wallets including MetaMask, Ledger, Trust Wallet and Bitcoin.com.

This is significant because Cash App’s crypto offering was previously much narrower. The platform initially focused on Bitcoin and later added USDC.

Rather than building the infrastructure required to support every new cryptocurrency itself, Block, Cash App’s parent company, can use MoonPay’s existing infrastructure to expand the number of assets available to its users.

Why Is This Important?

The most interesting part of the development may not be the four tokens themselves.

It is the distribution.

Cash App already has a massive consumer audience. Giving eligible users a simpler route into XRP, SOL, ETH and USDT could reduce one of the barriers that has traditionally kept newcomers away from crypto: having to open an account on a dedicated exchange before buying digital assets.

A user who already has money inside Cash App can potentially use that balance to purchase supported crypto and then move it to a wallet outside the platform.

That makes crypto feel less like a separate financial system and more like another payment option inside an application people already understand.

What Could It Mean for XRP, SOL and ETH?

The integration does not guarantee that the prices of XRP, SOL or ETH will rise.

However, it creates another potential channel through which new users can access these assets.

For XRP in particular, being added alongside established assets such as ETH, SOL and USDT gives it exposure to a large mainstream payment audience.

SOL also benefits from greater accessibility as Solana continues trying to expand beyond its existing crypto-native user base.

ETH, meanwhile, already has broad adoption, but easier access through mainstream financial applications could further strengthen its position as an entry point into the wider Ethereum ecosystem.

USDT is different. Rather than being primarily viewed as an investment asset, the stablecoin can serve as a digital-dollar instrument for moving value between platforms and wallets.

The Bigger Story: Crypto Is Moving Closer to Mainstream Finance

There is a broader trend underneath this announcement.

Traditional financial and payment platforms are increasingly finding ways to connect their existing users to digital assets without forcing them to navigate a completely separate crypto infrastructure.

MoonPay’s role is particularly important because it allows companies to offer crypto purchases without having to build every part of the underlying system themselves.

For Block, that could make expanding its crypto offering considerably easier.

And if users respond positively, today’s four-token expansion may not be the end.

The company could potentially add more assets or expand eligibility to additional markets in the future.

What Investors Should Watch

The immediate question is not whether Cash App’s crypto expansion will send XRP, SOL or ETH higher.

The more important question is how many of Cash App’s millions of users actually use the new feature.

If the integration generates meaningful crypto purchases and wallet transfers, it could demonstrate that mainstream consumers are willing to access digital assets through familiar payment applications.

That could encourage other fintech companies to follow a similar path.

For crypto investors, the development is therefore worth watching beyond the short-term price reaction.

The real signal will be whether integrations like this can turn millions of existing fintech users into active crypto users.

If they can, the impact on crypto adoption could ultimately be much larger than simply adding four more tokens to a payment app.
