The Ukraine corn harvest is on track to become the country’s largest grain crop in 2025, marking a major shift in its agricultural landscape. According to Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi, the nation expects an overall grain output of 59 million tons, up from 56 million tons in 2024. He shared this update during a meeting at the Center for Economic Strategy.

Corn Leads Grain Growth
The latest figures show that corn will be Ukraine’s main grain crop, with production expected to hit 30 million tons. Early grains such as wheat and barley have already been harvested, yielding 22 – 22.5 million tons and 5.3 million tons, respectively. These levels are enough to meet the nation’s domestic food needs.
Vysotskyi explained that harvesting started later than usual because of a delayed spring and rainy autumn months. “We are still under halfway through corn collection,” he said. “Despite delays, we expect a stronger result than last year’s 27 million tons.” The main stage of harvesting is expected to continue through November and possibly into December, depending on weather conditions.
Oilseeds Decline as Corn Acreage Expands
While the Ukraine corn harvest is rising, oilseed crops are trending lower. Rapeseed output has fallen slightly to 3.3 million tons from 3.7 million a year earlier. Sunflower production remains stable at 11.5 – 12 million tons, but soybean output dropped sharply to 5 – 5.5 million tons compared with 7.2 million in 2024.
The deputy minister noted that this change is due to farmland reallocation. “Farmers planted less soybean and more corn this season,” he said, “which naturally reshaped the crop structure.”
Positive Economic Outlook
Earlier forecasts suggested a total harvest of 56 million tons, but the latest estimates show stronger results. The National Bank of Ukraine reports that improved agricultural performance is helping to ease inflation pressure and strengthen the national economy. The bank expects continued growth through 2026 and 2027, driven mainly by the expanding Ukraine corn harvest.
However, Ukraine’s EU corn market share has fallen sharply—nearly threefold—because of delayed shipments. Even so, experts remain confident that corn will stay at the center of Ukraine’s agricultural success story in 2025.
