Flutterwave has chosen Polygon as its primary blockchain partner to transform how money moves across Africa. The multi-year partnership will make Polygon PoS the core blockchain infrastructure powering Flutterwave’s upcoming cross-border payments platform, designed to deliver faster, cheaper, and more transparent international transactions.

Under the collaboration, a pilot program for select Flutterwave for Business customers is set to launch in 2025, with full access for both enterprise and consumer users via the Send App scheduled for 2026. Flutterwave, which already operates in more than 30 African countries and supports over 150 currencies, aims to leverage Polygon’s speed and scalability to simplify remittances and settlements across borders.

Instant Settlements and Lower Fees for African Businesses

The partnership promises to address long-standing inefficiencies in the $2 trillion global cross-border payments market. By integrating Polygon’s high-performance rails and stablecoin settlement infrastructure, Flutterwave expects to cut settlement times from several days to just seconds while driving transaction fees down to mere pennies. This development could be transformative for both multinational clients—such as Uber and Audiomack—and millions of small and medium-sized enterprises that depend on fast, affordable cross-border transactions.

Polygon CEO Marc Boiron described the initiative as a milestone for blockchain adoption in emerging markets, noting that stablecoins built on Polygon can turn “days to seconds.” The effort aligns with Flutterwave’s broader goal of scaling real-world stablecoin use to enhance liquidity and financial inclusion across Africa.

A Phased Rollout Across the Continent

According to Flutterwave, the integration will begin with enterprise users before expanding to consumer remittances in regions where regulatory frameworks allow. The company plans a phased rollout to ensure compliance while maintaining operational efficiency across its network.

If successful, the partnership could redefine how cross-border payments function in Africa, giving businesses and individuals access to faster, cheaper, and more reliable digital financial infrastructure.
