While most major digital assets faced losses, Binance Coin (BNB) defied the trend, climbing 0.2% to briefly touch a new all-time high near $808.
XRP’s Sharp Market Cap Contraction
XRP’s decline was stark, causing its market capitalization to fall below $200 billion for the first time in over four days. By 12:40 p.m. EST, its market cap had plummeted to just over $191 billion. This represented a significant contraction for the asset, which had recently commanded valuations exceeding $200 billion and led the altcoin rally. The speed and depth of XRP’s fall outpaced Bitcoin’s modest 1.2% dip and was more severe than most other top 20 cryptocurrencies, signaling intense selling pressure specific to the XRP ecosystem. Despite the drop, XRP maintained a substantial $30 billion lead over the market cap of stablecoin giant USDT.
BNB Bucks the Trend with ATH
In stark contrast to the broader altcoin weakness, BNB emerged as the sole gainer among the top 20 assets. Its brief surge to approximately $808 marked a new all-time high, momentarily pushing its market cap past $112 billion.
According to Binance Research, this milestone made BNB unique: the only cryptocurrency besides Bitcoin within the top 100 by market cap (with over two years of history) to achieve a new peak this month. The report highlighted, “The powerful, five-week rally underscores a market consensus that increasingly views BNB as more of a blue-chip asset, second only to Bitcoin in the current bull cycle.” However, BNB later retraced some gains, trading around $770 at the time of writing for a market cap exceeding $107 billion.
