OKX Makes a Comeback in the U.S. With New Exchange and Wallet

Crypto giant OKX is returning to the U.S. market with a compliant, phased rollout—just months after settling with the DOJ.

Seychelles-based crypto exchange OKX is reentering the U.S. with a fresh strategy, introducing a centralized exchange and self-custody wallet tailored to American users. This return comes on the heels of a $500 million settlement with the Department of Justice for operating without a license.

This time, OKX is sticking to the rulebook. It’s launching a headquarters in San Jose, California, and plans to gradually expand across the country.

Leadership, Compliance, and Expansion Plans

To lead the charge, OKX has named Roshan Robert as CEO of its U.S. division. Robert previously held a senior position at Hidden Road, a crypto brokerage recently acquired by Ripple for $1.25 billion.

“We’re focused on regulatory clarity, innovation, and recruiting top talent,” said Hong Fang, OKX Global President. “With Roshan at the helm, we’re ready to build responsibly.”

The platform will offer a high-liquidity trading experience, competitive fees, and a powerful wallet supporting more than 130 blockchains. OKX has also partnered with Web3 security firm Hacken to conduct monthly proof-of-reserve audits.

 

Timing the Market

Regulatory momentum in the U.S. appears to be shifting, with the SEC easing up on some enforcement actions, including a pause in legal proceedings against Binance. OKX sees this as a chance to rebuild trust and establish itself as a compliant, secure alternative for digital assets.

Meanwhile, the exchange is still battling regulatory pressure overseas, including a $1.2 million fine in Malta and scrutiny in the EU and Thailand.

“As the U.S. defines clearer crypto rules, we’re here to lead with trust and security,” said Robert.
