OKX Launches Pre-Market Futures with Hamster Kombat’s HMSTR Token

OKX has introduced its pre-market futures product, and Hamster Kombat’s HMSTR token is the first to be featured.

The prominent crypto exchange, OKX, announced on Monday the launch of its innovative pre-market futures. This new product grants traders access to expiry futures for forthcoming tokens before their public sale, initial coin offering (ICO), or token generation event (TGE).

This initiative by OKX aims to facilitate the price discovery process for early-stage tokens while enabling customers to benefit from potential price movements. OKX clarified that the pre-market futures for new cryptocurrencies would be delivered at a “specified price” on the delivery date.

Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) on OKX

According to OKX’s official press release, the initial addition to its pre-market futures is the HMSTR token from the Telegram mini-app game, Hamster Kombat. This feature allows users to gain exposure to HMSTR without needing to hold the actual asset.
Created by anonymous founders, Hamster Kombat quickly rose to fame as an engaging “clicker” game, where users could “tap and earn” virtual coins, driving significant profits. The game’s popularity soared, attracting 142 million users in just 77 days, setting new benchmarks and sparking interest in blockchain technology.

Regulatory Scrutiny and Future Prospects

Despite its widespread popularity, Hamster Kombat has faced scrutiny from global regulators. Russian authorities have cautioned that the game might be a “pyramid scheme” due to its passive income promises.

Similarly, in Iran, the game has been criticized by the army chief, who termed it a “soft war” against the country.

OKX emphasized that including HMSTR in its pre-market futures does not assure the token’s eventual listing for spot trading. By introducing the pre-market futures product, OKX aims to provide traders with an opportunity to engage with upcoming tokens early, promoting informed price discovery and potentially lucrative trading strategies.
