The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has announced plans to launch its non-fungible tokens (NFTs), FIFA+ Collect, platform later in September.
FIFA explained in a press release on Friday that once launched, FIFA+ Collect will release a variety of NFT collections and announce details about upcoming, exclusive, and limited-edition collectibles.
The press release further detailed that the NFTs will feature historical moments from football matches and iconic art and images from the FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments.
Commenting on the latest development, Romy Gai, FIFA Chief Business Officer, noted: “This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles available to any football fan, democratizing the ability to own a part of the FIFA World Cup.” Gai further explained:
“Fandom is changing, and football fans around the world engage with the game in new and exciting ways… Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favorite players, moments, and more on new platforms.”
The FIFA collection will be available on FIFA+, the organization’s digital platform for access to live soccer games anywhere on the planet, games, football news, tournament information, and other football-related content. The FIFA+ Collect platform will be launched in English, French, and Spanish, and other languages will be added eventually.
FIFA+ Collect a Product of Partnership Between FIFA and Algorand
The NFT platform comes after a partnership with Algorand earlier this year. Algorand CEO Sean Ford recently noted: “The commitment FIFA has made to bridge to Web3 enabled by Algorand is a testament to their innovative spirit and desire to directly and seamlessly engage with football fans.”
Three months ago, the blockchain company and FIFA signed a sponsorship and technical partnership deal ahead of the World Cup games in Qatar later this year.
