Tether Makes $1B Bid to Buy Juventus FC

Tether has launched a $1 billion bid to acquire full control of Juventus Football Club, one of Italy’s most famous soccer teams. The crypto stablecoin giant offered an all-cash deal to Exor, the Agnelli family’s holding company, which owns a 65.4% stake. Reports indicate that Exor has rejected the offer, saying “Juventus is not for sale.”

Tether’s Expanding Role in Football

Tether is not just a cryptocurrency issuer. Known for the USDT stablecoin, the company is also investing in AI, robotics, and healthcare platforms. In February, Tether bought its first stake in Juventus and raised it to over 10% by April.

To strengthen its influence, Tether nominated Zachary Lyons and Francesco Garino to Juventus’ board of directors in October. Shareholders recently approved Garino’s appointment, showing the company’s growing presence in club management.

CEO Paolo Ardoino emphasized Tether’s long-term commitment: “We are financially strong and ready to support Juventus with stable capital over time.” Ardoino added that Juventus shaped his values of commitment, resilience, and responsibility while growing up.

A $1.1 Billion Investment Plan

If the deal goes through, Tether will invest €1 billion ($1.1 billion) to support Juventus’ growth. The plan also includes a public offer for all remaining shares at the same price. Juventus, valued at €944.49 million ($1.1 billion), recently saw its stock rise 2.3% to €2.23 ($2.62).

Although Exor declined the bid, Tether’s actions highlight a growing trend: cryptocurrency companies entering mainstream sports. This bid shows how digital finance firms are moving beyond tokens to make strategic investments in high-profile industries.
